Dark cherry-red with ruby edges. Wide and powerful. Notes of candied fruit intermingled with aromas of eucaliptus and menthol. Fresh, clean and complex. A subtle attack gives way to a wide mouth developing the complexity of this style increasingly exclusive. Notes of menthol, tobacco, cocoa and high roasts outline a feminine but persistent finish.
What the critics say...
Wine Spectator: 96 points(15/11/2005)
Still dark in color, with alluring aromas of blackberry, mineral and cigar box, this red shows a firm, fresh, balanced palate, with black cherry, vanilla, mineral and floral flavors that mingle over firm, well-integrated tannins and float onto a long finish. It s harmonious, lively and complex, not showy but with great beauty and character. Drink now through 2012.

This bodega has produced many profound wines, but the 1994 Unico Reserva may be the greatest vintage released since their legendary 1970 and 1968. A truly prodigious effort, it boasts an opaque ruby/purple color as well as a gorgeously sweet, expansive bouquet of sweet cherries interwoven with black currant, truffle, licorice, and scorched earth aromas. Full-bodied, potent, powerful, and well-delineated with crisp acidity, sweet but noticeable tannin, a multidimensional, expansive, layered palate feel, and a pure yet refreshing finish, it should be a wine for the history books. Anticipated maturity: now-2035

Evolution: further than 2015. Gastronomy: aromatic meat plates(with foie gras and mushrooms). 80 % Tinta Fino, 15 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 5 % Merlot; two years in oak vats, 52 months in cask and other 30 months in vat. It moves away from its classic baroque character, with more punch, character and elegance. It has a marked fruit of great finesse and improves the assimilation of the wood. Harmonious strenght in the mouth. Service: 18ºC.
In 1864, Eloy Lecanda founded the winery that symbolizes the golden legend of Spanish red wine. Throughout its long history, it has belonged to different owners, although it has always maintained an unquestionable personality, making concentrated, mature, generous and extremely elegant. The... current stage began in 1982, when El Enebro S.A., a company owned by the Álvarez Mezquíriz family, acquired the winery and the vineyards from the Venezuelan businessman Miguel Neumann. From that year onwards, the family, with David Álvarez and his sons and daughters Pablo, Jesús David, María José, Emilio, Juan Carlos, Elvira and Marta, have developed a policy of harmonization of present innovative techniques required by the wine sector with the traditional winemaking process. The vineyard area has been extended and the vineyards and vines, which were almost half a century old, have been replanted in rotation.
