Predominance of spices and high roast coffee such as wood, tobacco, coffee, all integrated with certain notes of youth (ripe fruit). Ample flavor, with the complexity and elegance of the old wines, but supporting youth features, with a strong structure. Very rich in tannic sensations, with slight wooden touches.

Very youthful for its age, with lively plum fruit and sweet vanilla flavors, smooth and rich. A musky note gives it added lift but won t appeal to everyone. At its peak now, but should hold.

A perplexing wine, the extremely youthful, dark ruby/purple-colored 1974 Unico exhibits a shy, albeit promising nose of smoky, cedary, black-cherry fruit, tart, medium to full-bodied flavors, little tannin, and a more monolithic personality than most Vega Sicilia wines. It remains extremely young. If I had had this wine in a blind tasting, I would have guessed it to be 5-6 years old, not 20. Whether or not it will expand and develop complexity remains my only reservation. Otherwise, it is a rich, pure, well-made, big wine that has not begun to open.

From that year onwards, the family, with David Álvarez and his sons and daughters Pablo, Jesús David, María José, Emilio, Juan Carlos, Elvira and Marta, have developed a policy of harmonization of present innovative techniques required by the wine sector with the traditional winemaking process. The vineyard area has been extended and the vineyards and vines, which were almost half a century old, have been replanted in rotation.
