The history of the Ventosilla Estate goes back to the 16th century. In the year 1600, in the estate of 3000 hectares, a palace was built to offer lodging to the King in his numerous stays. Since then it is known as ´ Ventosilla's Royal summer residence ´ Already in this epoch it was when... it began the agricultural and cattle settling of the estate. In 1985, being ahead to the future expansion of the Denomination of Origin of Ribera de Duero future, he acquired 600 hectares of plantation rights of vineyard. That was a real managerial risk since it was 10 % of the whole extension of the Ribera de Duero. In 1989 the first 200 hectares were planted and it began a wine project that would culminate in the year 2005. The 520 hectares of current vineyard constitute the greatest plantation of the estate, being the Tempranillo the most cultivated variety, with 90 % of the vineyard. Also other varieties are cultivated, as the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Merlot.
