The Pago De Los Capellanes El Nogal is made from a clonal selection of Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) of Finca El Picon.
Vineyard: From a plot of 6 hectares of Tempranillo or Tinto Fino, grafted with buds of our Picon are obtained exceptional grapes, with a maximum yield of 4,000 kg per hectare, reaching a high concentration of aromas, color and fine tannins.
Tasting notes: Into view a deep purple color, with blue borders that show his youth. Typical closed shell from Tinto Fino grape, dense and abundant tears. The aromas of fresh fruit and flowers fill our senses, appearing later the tones of vanilla, cacao, roasted, new leather, which confirm the proper assembly of wooden grapes. Tones of sandalwood and spice and liquorice snuff or leave a pleasant memory and persistent. The entrance is elegant, fleshy, filling the palate fresh. Progress is powerful and complex and leaves a long aftertaste, intense, ripe grape and round tannins, fine. It is definitely a serious and complex wine with a long life ahead. We recommend decanting to six hours in advance for your enjoyment.
What the critics say...

A refined red, delivering expressive berry, mineral and smoke notes, this is light-bodied yet firm, with lively acidity. Deceptively supple, this is balanced and focused, showing plenty of structure. Drink now through 2019.

The 2005 Parcela El Nogal is 100% Tempranillo aged for 22 months in new French oak. It emits a brooding aromatic array of pain grille, pencil lead, licorice, mineral, and blackberry. Tightly wound on the palate but with all the right stuff, it demands 6-8 years of additional cellaring. It will offer a drinking window extending from 2016 to 2030.

Pago de los Capellanes is located near the village of Pedrosa de Duero, nestled deep in the heart of the Ribera del Duero region of Spain, home to some of the finest grapes of the region. The Rodero – Villa family, complemented by a group of exceptional wine professionals, have followed their... personal approach to making wine. This has brought into being today’s Pago de los Capellanes estate, fulfilling a dream that began in 1980. Presently more than two hundred and fifty acres (one hundred hectares) of vineyards, grown in the modern style of trained vines, surround the winery. The grape varieties include Tempranillo, known locally as Tinto Fino, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. We only allow our vineyards to produce 4,460 pounds of grapes per acre (5,000 kilograms of grapes per hectare), far below the 6,250 pounds per acre (7,000 kg. / ha.) permitted by the regional Ribera del Duero Regulatory Council, a clear example of how we strive for quality in our raw materials. All the wines marketed under the Pago de los Capellanes brand are made with the same care; our red wines show their individual character, the result of tranquil aging, care and patience.
