The Pago De Los Capellanes Crianza offers a very intense and shiny morello cherry color, with purplish edges, on the nose it is very a frank with a good fruit - wood balance, vanilla tones are melted with ripe fruit, black fruit and fruit of the forest. Standing out leather and licorice notes typical from the French Oak assemblage with varietal aromas. Soft palate, but full of balanced flavors and also with a few fine tannins that will help to extend its life, to finish with a long and elegant after-taste.
What the critics say...
Wine Spectator: 91 points(30/09/2010)
This expressive red shows currant, boysenberry and blood orange flavors, while sandalwood, anise and wood smoke notes add interest. The texture is plush and supple, the finish fresh and long. A modern style. Drink now through 2014.
Robert Parker: 90 points(01/06/2010)
The 2007 Crianza spent 12 months in 33% new French oak. It offers a more expressive perfume of cedar, pencil lead, mineral, violets, and black cherry. On the palate it has some elegance, savory flavors, 1-2 years of aging potential, and a fruit-filled finish. It will drink well through 2019.
Pago de los Capellanes is located near the village of Pedrosa de Duero, nestled deep in the heart of the Ribera del Duero region of Spain, home to some of the finest grapes of the region. The Rodero – Villa family, complemented by a group of exceptional wine professionals, have followed their... personal approach to making wine. This has brought into being today’s Pago de los Capellanes estate, fulfilling a dream that began in 1980. Presently more than two hundred and fifty acres (one hundred hectares) of vineyards, grown in the modern style of trained vines, surround the winery. The grape varieties include Tempranillo, known locally as Tinto Fino, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. We only allow our vineyards to produce 4,460 pounds of grapes per acre (5,000 kilograms of grapes per hectare), far below the 6,250 pounds per acre (7,000 kg. / ha.) permitted by the regional Ribera del Duero Regulatory Council, a clear example of how we strive for quality in our raw materials. All the wines marketed under the Pago de los Capellanes brand are made with the same care; our red wines show their individual character, the result of tranquil aging, care and patience.
