Navarra Wine
Navarra, as productor of red, rose and white wines, was well known untill the 80´s decade for its traditional rose wines, but from that decade starts to stand out as one of the most experienced wine making areas.
This evolution has been possible due to,... the wine growing developement experienced with the advisng of the Wine growing and Oenology Station. This Center located in Olite belongs to the Navarra Foral Community, dedicates its activity to the wine growing matter research and tuition, and has converted this designation as one of the areas with more diversity in Spain.
In Navarra are elaborated red, white and moscatels, as the result of many years of work and research.
The designation is divided in five subfields, each one with its own identity and producing wines with its own personality: Valdizabre, Tierra Estella, Ribera Alta, Baja Montaña and Ribera Baja.
Nowadays, Navarra is over all a Red wine production area. The Garnacha grape generates varietal wines of great quality. Concerning the Crianza, the grapes of the new Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vineyards are developing a true discovery to create varietal wines with these three varieties, as well a considerable number of blends, among them standing out the Tempranillo, Garnacha and Merlot o Cabernet Sauvignon.
The white wine production(4%), is elaborated traditionally with the Viura variety. even so, it is also important the white wine production proceeding from the Chardonnay variety, grape from which are obtained wines of a great aromatic richness, in a few cases keeping the primary floral and fruity aromas and in the others the toasted ones from the fermentation in oak, offering an splendid finish.
The famous Navarra rose are fresh and fruity, with a robust character obtained from the Garnacha grape maceration.
Finally, because of the natural sweet wines rise, the traditional Muscat is living a rebirth.
Main authorized white varieties: Viura, Chardonnay.
Main authirized red varieties: Tempranillo, Graciano, cabernet sauvignon.
Other permitted white varieties: Sauvignon Blanc
Other permitted red varieties: Garnacha, Mazuela, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir.
