Chocolate and espresso flavors envelop plum and prune flavors in this muscular red. The tannins are firm on the finish, but there's enough acidity to keep it lively. Best from 2009 through 2015.

The 2004 Vinas Viejas was sourced from four D.O.s and 50-60 plots in which the Tempranillo vines average over 50 years of age. The wine was aged for 24 months in a mix of new and used French and American oak. Opaque purple-colored, it offers an alluring perfume of toast, saddle leather, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied and opulent on the palate, the wine has layers of spicy fruit, enough structure to evolve for another 4-6 years, superb depth and concentration, and a pure, lengthy finish. It is a testament to what skilled blending can achieve. Drink this classy effort from 2012 to 2030.
