Las Colinas del Ebro Selección is made from Merlot 60%, Syrah 25% and Garnacha Negre 15%. Coming from the Terra Alta, the largest Denomination of Origin in Catalonia, the land is characterised by extreme seasons, accentuated by its altitude of 400-600 metres above sea level. The soils are clayey, with a good lime content, poor in organic material and good drainage. Aged for 14 months in new French oak.
Tasting notes: Nose: earthy and mineral. Palate: huge concentration and layers of fruit on the palate.
What the critics say...
Robert Parker: 90 points(01/06/2009)
The 2006 Las Colinas del Ebro Tinto Seleccion is a blend of 60% Merlot, 25% Syrah, and 15% Garnacha aged for 14 months in new French oak. Opaque purple in color, it has a complex aromatic array of cedar, pencil lead, mineral, black currant, black cherry, and incense. With some elegance on the palate, it shows off spicy blue fruits, a good integration of oak and fruit, and a lengthy finish. Give it 2-3 years in bottle to round out and drink it from 2011 to 2020.
Pairing: Aged Cheese, Game Animals, Grilled Red Meats, Legume, Roasts, Stews.
