Gerry Calabrese -Hoxton Gin creator- has finally reached his target after three years of testing: creating a totally new gin combining the basic ingredient (the juniper) with other exotic ingredients. He then picked the coconut and the grapefruit and combined them with iris, ginger and tarragon.
As expected, soon the reactions of the most conservative already pointed into whether Hoxton could really be considered a gin. Some have even dared to say that it tastes like Malibu. It is true that a gin should taste like juniper but it is also true that new approaches are needed to satisfy the great diversity of consumers. In any case the debate is open.
Tasting notes: It is sweet on the nose with marked notes of coconut and grapefruit and a subtle background of juniper. Sweetness continues on the palate with the coconut dominating to finally taste the grapefruit and juniper.
Gerry Calabrese had the idea of reconstructing the classic Gin. After several attempts at the ideal recipe, he had a brainwave. A gin containing the classic Juniper but adding exotic ingredients. Distilled with coconut and grapefruit, Hoxton Gin is uniquely smooth and rounded.
