Powerful wine, with a suggestive aroma of red fruits, underbush and sweet spices. The powerful structure in the mouth is well delimited by the blend of the warm and acid flavours which, at the same time, give an important volume but well defined by the elgance and balance more than by its hardness.
What the critics say...
Robert Parker: 90 points(01/08/2003)
The 2000 Gaia is a Bordeaux-like blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Merlot aged in French oak. This elegant, restrained yet complex red offers up notes of cedar, fruit cake, spice box, cigar tobacco, and currants. Medium-bodied, spicy, and moderately tannic with a surprisingly long finish, it should be consumed over the next 7-8 years.
Pairing: Aged Cheese, Game Animals, Grilled Red Meats, Legume, Roasts, Stews.
Jeffrey Grosset founded its property in 1981, in the town of Auburn located in the etreme south of Clare Valley. Its wines Polish Hill and Watervale have carried the weight of the re-birth of the Riesling in the region. The vineyard of Polish Hill is situated at 460m and was planted... between 1966 and 1978, being found now fully mature. Its name comes from the Polish colonists who established themself around 1840. This wine has a big responsibility in the involvment of Clare Valley as one of the largest regions of Riesling in the world.
