Details of Marqués de Murrieta Dalmau Reserva 2005:
Single-vineyard: Canajas plot. A more than 50 yearold single vineyard located at over 480 m above sea level within our 300 ha/741 acre Ygay Estate (Rioja Alta).
Harvest: The harvest took place on the 27th and 28th of September, 2005. The grapes are harvested by hand and taken to the winery in small cases.
Key aspect of vinification: Grapes are first carefully de-stemmed and then fermented both in a temperature controlled, stainless steel tank and a wooden vat for approximately 11-15 days, with daily “remontage” and “delestage” processes, in order to obtain full potential of the perfect condition grapes. While Tempranillo ferments in a stainless steel deposit, Cabernet Sauvignon and Graciano ferment individually in a wooden vat. The grapes are vinified separately to keep their peculiarities intact.
Barrel ageing process: 19 months in 225 L new French oak barrels from Allier.
Bottling date: July 2008. Limited production: 23.409 bottles.
Recommended foods: All red meats, roasts and game. Excellent also with cheeses.
Serving temperature: 16-18 ºC. Decanting: It is recommended to decant forty minutes before serving.
What the critics say...
Robert Parker: 94 points(01/06/2011)
"Dense purple in color, it exhibits aromas of pain grille, graphite, lavender, spice box, and assorted black fruits with a hint of balsamic and chocolate. Savory, spicy, and well-balanced, this layered offering has plenty of silky tannins and a pure, seamless finish. It will continue to blossom for several more years and drink well through 2025."
Peñin Guide: 96 points(01/01/2012)
Intense cherry red colour. On nose, with character, ripe fruit, chocolate, sweet spices, new oak. On palate, tasty, powerful, fleshy, round, ripe tannins.
Pairing: Beef, Game Animals, Grilled Red Meats, Roasts, Stews.
Marqués de Murrieta, with more than 150 years of history, has succeeded in adapting to modern times. The secret is to maintain the winery´s identity whilst renewing it. Its perfect balance between tradition and modernity is supported by its long history and constant investment in... technology, and additionaly the know-how of its young team. The exclusive wines produced by Pazo de Barrantes are the result of their own character, the philosophy with which they are elaborated and the limited number of bottles produced each year. Their wines are: Marqués de Murrieta (Red Reserva), Capellanía (White Reserva), Castillo Ygay (Red Gran Reserva), Dalmau (Red Reserva).
