Joseph Janoueix acquired Château Haut-Sarpe in the area of famous Classified Vineyards near Saint-Emilion in 1930. A little later, he added Château La Croix and La Croix Saint Georges, near Pomerol to his patrimony. In 1932, he founded his own business company, began the restoration of... the domain and enlarged his wine patrimony. Today, the surface of the big vineyards belonging to the four sons of Jean Janoueix and to their descendants exceeds 300 hectares. All are ´appellation contrôlée´: Pomerol, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Montagne-Saint-Emilion, Saint Georges, Saint Emilion, Canon-Fronsac, Fronsac, Lalande-de-Pomerol, Côtes de Castillon, Bordeaux Supérieur.
Two years later, Joseph Janoueix married Marie-Antoinette Estrade, capable and noble-hearted woman of action. Jean-François Janoueix, their son, succeeded to his father at the head of the company and to the visit of the clientele which he widened to the whole world. With his wife Françoise he acquired, in 1978, Château Castelot in Saint Emilion, an old dwelling-place where Henry IV stayed, as it is said. In Château Haut Sarpe in Saint-Emilion, wine-producing fief of Joseph Jannoueix family he protected the Compostellan spirit by offering a shelter to the pilgrims going to Saint Jacques de Compostelle, what it has always been. Each of the wine storehouses of Joseph Janoueix Domains is a real museum dedicated to the glory of famous wines and to the very ancient traditions of wine growing and associated activities.
