Beautiful brilliant golden colour. Concentrated bouquet of ripe fruit (mirabelle plum, apricot, and mango) and dried fruit (fig, raisin, and quince), followed by hints of white fruit (pear and vine peach) and spicy nuances (saffron, curry, toasty aromas, fresh mint, and eucalyptus). This vintage's bouquet has a rare subtlety that can only increase with age.
The wine starts off sumptuously on the palate, with uncommon volume and body. Its is tremendously suave and well-structured, providing an intense tasting pleasure for which the keywords are balance, opulence, and refinement. Rarely have we encountered such an impression of perfection in the history of Château d'Yquem. The aftertaste goes on into infinity, echoing the multiple sensations experienced up until then. After experiencing this unique pleasure, one has only one idea in mind - to re-enter the extraordinary world of 2001 Yquem.
What the critics say...
Robert Parker: 100 points(01/04/2005)
There are 10,000 cases of this perfect sweet white Bordeaux. The 2001 Yquem reveals a hint of green in its light gold color. While somewhat reticent aromatically, with airing, it offers up honeyed tropical fruit, orange marmalade, pineapple, sweet creme brulee, and buttered nut-like scents. In the mouth, it is full-bodied with gorgeously refreshing acidity as well as massive concentration and unctuosity. Everything is uplifted and given laser-like focus by refreshing acidity. This large-scaled, youthful Yquem appears set to take its place among the most legendary vintages of the past, and will age effortlessly for 75+ years. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2100+.
