Barón de Ley Reserva is made from hand harvested 100% Tempranillo. Destemmed before passing to the stainless steel fermentation vats. Fermentation at controlled temperatures around 29-30ºC, with daily remontages and tasting of the musts. Ageing for 20 months in new American oak casks, and 24 months in bottle until arriving to its ideal moment for enjoyment. No filterings or artificial stabilizations, which might result in the appearance of natural sediments in the bottle.
Tasting notes: Red ruby colour. Nose: fruit with traces coming from its ageing: coconut and toffee, evolving into seductive nuances of spices and Mediterranean bush. Palate: pleasant sensation. Long and fresh finish.
What the critics say...
Robert Parker: 90 points(01/06/2011)
The 2006 Barón De Ley Reserva (100% Tempranillo) spent 12 months in American oak. Reticent aromatically, with coaxing it gives up a pleasing perfume of smoke, mineral, spice box, blackberry, and a hint of balsamic. Spicy on the palate with plenty of volume, this lengthy effort exhibits an elegant personality and plenty of length. Give it 2-3 years of additional cellaring and drink it through 2021.
Peñin Guide: 87 points(01/01/2012)

Barón de Ley is a winery which was devised and founded in 1985 by a small group of prestigious Rioja professionals which decided to create a project which was unique at that time in the Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja: a winery modelled on the Médoc châteaux, bringing together all the... conditions that make a wine a work of art. With this objective, the creators of Barón de Ley acquired the Imas estate, within the boundaries of Mendavia and on the left bank of the River Ebro. It is an exceptional place for growing vines due to its climatic conditions and the characteristics of its soils, on which 90 hectares of vines were planted. And so the first fruit of this ambitious project saw the light in 1990, the year in which the first bottles of Barón de Ley were presented to the public. From these first steps, the story of Barón de Ley has been marked by continual improvement and an enthusiastic acceptance by both the national and international markets. In fact, the recognition achieved in such a short time made it necessary to enlarge the initial project, which was given its final shape in 1997.
