Cherry red to garnet rim color. On the nose, red fruits, vanilla, pastry and English custard aromatics. In the mouth the attack is a little bit rough, with sweet tannins and soft wood.

Powerful. This mouthfilling red is thick with roasted plum, coffee and beef flavors. Muscular tannins dominate now, but floral and mineral notes emerge on the finish. Has impressive concentration and good balance. Best after 2009.

The 2004 Pagos Viejos is inky purple with a sublime nose of pain grille, spice box, cherries, raspberries, and wild blue fruits. This is followed by a dense, plush, full-flavored, sexy wine with perfect balance and remarkable elegance for a wine so powerful. Although it can be enjoyed now, it deserves a minimum of a decade of cellaring after which it should drink well through 2047. Kudos to Bodegas Artadi for this tour de force!

Evolution: until 2015. Gastronomy: stews, red meats (T-bone), vegetables. Tempranillo; 14-16 months in cask. Consistent, powerful, magnificent now and with life ahead. Powerful and elegant aroma, plenty of nuances; mineral notes of ripe fruit and ink. Structured and balanced in the mouth, fleshy, oily, good tannins. Service: 18ºC.
Pairing: Aged Cheese, Game Animals, Grilled Red Meats, Legume, Roasts, Stews.
In the heart of the Rioja Alavesa, Artadi possesses 60 has. of vineyards seated in soils of diverse and wide geological diversity. Calcareous soils, gravels and clays compose the balance of poor soils and a climatology alteration of Continental and Atlantic. These vineyards form the... singularity and personality of the vineyards: the freshness of the fruit and the delicacy of the tannins. In the cellar they preserve the opulence of the old vineyards and the freshness and transparency of the new plantations.
