AALTO 2006 was bottled in March 2009, rested in our winery for a further month, and was released at the end of April.
This vintage produced a luscious and hedonistic wine that can be enjoyed from this very moment, showing a distinct character, great roundness, with velvety tannins and a good acidity.
We foresee a development of aromas in the subsequent three years, gaining balance and complexity.
The grapes come exclusively from old vineyards located in 7 different villages of Ribera del Duero. Harvested by hand in small 15 kg. containers and thoroughly inspected in selection table.
Average oak ageing of 23 months, 50% new French barrels and 50% one or two years old French and American barrels.
What the critics say...
Robert Parker: 94 points(01/06/2009)
The opaque purple 2006 Aalto offers up a brooding bouquet of wood smoke, graphite, espresso, leather, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. This leads to a full-bodied, dense, layered, extracted wine with loads of fruit and the structure to match. Impeccably balanced and exceptionally long in the finish, this large-scaled effort will benefit from 5-7 years of additional cellaring and provide a drinking window extending from 2016 to 2036. Bodegas y Vinedos Aalto is the estate of the renowned Mariano Garcia, former winemaker at Vega Sicilia.
